Luckiamute Watershed Council host Oregon Black Pioneers for its virtual pub series “Sips ‘n’ Science”.

The history and contributions of Black Americans are integral to the wider story of Oregon and the Luckiamute watershed, yet their stories are often left untold. These stories represent the determination and strength of Black pioneers as they fought unimaginable challenges.

OBP Board member Troy Tate will take you on a journey to the time of westward migration, when Blacks came west to Oregon. Troy will share stories of some of those who were brought to Polk and Benton counties as enslaved persons, and gained their freedom in Oregon, including Louis Southworth, Robin and Polly Holmes, and Letitia Carson.

Location : Online, via Zoom
Time: Wednesday, December 1st; 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Cost: Free
