Join Oregon Black Pioneers for Black Inclusion 100: A Black Exclusion Law Repeal Party
Celebrating a Century of Inclusion on the anniversary of the repeal of the Black exclusion clause from Oregon’s Constitution
On November 2, 1926, after tireless efforts by local Black activists and organizations like the NAACP, Oregon voters successfully repealed language from the Oregon Constitution that explicitly targeted Black individuals. The legacy of exclusion that denied us the right to live, work, or own land here was nullified in 1868 by the 14th Amendment, but it was enshrined in our state constitution until 1926, when 62% of voters helped usher in a new era of Black inclusion in Oregon.
