We’re Hiring a PT Communications Manager!

Communications Manager (Part Time, 20 hours/week)
Oregon Black Pioneers seeks a creative and experienced communications professional to develop and lead the organization’s marketing, digital engagement, brand identity, and sales efforts. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated experience leading marketing campaigns in relevant institutions. The selected candidate will join a small but motivated team of Black history evangelists, working hard to shape the next era of this 29 year old non-profit.

Duties:
Marketing
• Develop and oversee a marketing plan for Oregon Black Pioneers with the goal of building a wider audience for our research, exhibitions, programs, and initiatives.
• Advance Oregon Black Pioneers as a resource by promoting its activities and projects locally, statewide, and regionally.
• Create an organizational style guide and establishes the organization’s “voice”. Sets Oregon Black Pioneers’ visual brand by formalizing rules for use of color, images, graphic hierarchy, etc.
• Act as first line of communication for general email inquiries, press requests, etc.
• Engage Oregon Black Pioneers audiences through digital and direct mail campaigns.
• Coordinate the reservation, shipment, and payments of Oregon Black Pioneers’ traveling exhibitions.

Social Media & Website
• Develop a social media strategy which engages deeply with target demographics and across multiple social platforms.
• Lead Oregon Black Pioneers’ online communications by writing, scheduling, and posting regular social media updates. Communicates with the public through direct social media engagement with Oregon Black Pioneers’ audiences.
• Support organizational fundraising by writing, scheduling, and posting content around specific development campaigns.
• Act as primary manager of Oregon Black Pioneers’ websites. Under supervision of the Executive Director, updates pages with frequent blog posts, event scheduling, press releases, etc.

Design
• Produce high quality, visually appealing graphic materials for Oregon Black Pioneers for retail, promotions, and administrative (letterhead, business cards, etc.) use.

Retail
• Manage Oregon Black Pioneers’ online retail sales. With Executive Director, identifies and orders unique offerings to make available for sale through Oregon Black Pioneers’ e-commerce platforms.

The ideal candidate has
• A commitment to racial equity and the principles of inclusion and accessibility.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, copyediting abilities, and digital literacy.
• Expert-level familiarity with current social media engagement trends.
• Ability to work independently within deadlines and budgets.
• Familiarity with IT and cloud-based office management systems.
• Knowledge and appreciation of Oregon’s African American history.

Qualifications
• Minimum high school diploma with demonstrated work history in marketing and social media.
• Four+ years’ experience working in a relevant field or similar positions. Experience in museums and/or community non-profits strongly preferred.
• Exceptional organizational skills and prompt email communications.

Hours
• 20 hours per week. Exact workdays and hours flexible but candidate must be available for weekly virtual meetings, daily emails, and periodic phone calls.

• 0-5%

Location
• Remote, located anywhere in Oregon.

Salary
• $30,000 year. This position is unbenefited.
