Host Mariah Rocker welcomes our first History Investigator for 2025, historian, scholar, author and professor, Dr. Carmen P. Thompson! Dr. Thompson’s research explores the remarkable success of Portland’s Anti-Apartheid Movement of the 1980s. Located historically in the Civil Rights Movement activism since the 1940s for Black freedom and justice, this movement included activists, organizers and everyday citizens from across a spectrum of Black led organizations and coalitions to fight against the system of White supremacy in South Africa.
Black History Quest peeks behind the process as history investigators take on questions that have perplexed researchers of Oregon’s African American history. Each episode, we’ll learn about the challenges and surprises of doing historical research, and try to learn how one source can change history.
