Black History Quest, Season 2, episode 6!
What Happened to the Black C.C.C. Enrollees in Southern Oregon?
Don’t miss the Season Finale of Black History Quest to find out! Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 PM, host Mariah Rocker welcomes our last History Investigator for 2024, archaeologist and historian Jeff LaLande.
Focusing on Southern Oregon during the Great Depression, this presentation shines a light on the experience of African-American members of the New Deal’s Civilian Conservation Corps—which had begun as a racially integrated employment program for young men but then became segregated.
Black History Quest peeks behind the process as history investigators take on questions that have perplexed researchers of Oregon’s African American history. Each episode, we’ll learn about the challenges and surprises of doing historical research, and try to learn how one source can change history.
