Public Programs and Exhibitions Manager

Oregon Black Pioneers seeks a dynamic and organized professional to lead our public programming and traveling exhibitions program. In collaboration with the Executive Director and Board Programs Committee, this employee will be responsible for the research, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of Oregon Black Pioneers’ public programs and traveling exhibitions.

Qualified candidates will have experience developing and presenting history programs in museums or relevant institutions, and in coordinating the schedules and payments for these programs. Candidates with public speaking experience, and experience developing digital and in-person history exhibitions, are especially preferred.

Public Programs
• Research, develop and present virtual and in-person presentations related to Oregon’s Black history for Oregon Black Pioneers’ speaking programs.
• Host Oregon Black Pioneer’s virtual guest lecture program, Black History Quest.
• Collaboratively design and lead a diverse range of in-person community programs for adult and youth audiences with partner organizations around the state (approx. 5-8 per year).
• Maintain organizational web calendar for public programs. Work with Communications Manager to promote these programs through Oregon Black Pioneers’ website and social channels.

• Coordinate scheduling, shipping, and payments for Oregon Black Pioneer’s traveling exhibitions. Work with Communications Manager to promote these exhibitions through Oregon Black Pioneers’ website and social channels.
• Research and develop new digital history exhibitions for Oregon Black Pioneers website.
• Support the management of Oregon Black Pioneers collections and archive, as necessary.

The Most Qualified candidate has
• Extensive knowledge of Black history, with strong preference given to those with knowledge of Oregon’s Black history.
• Experience developing in-person and/or digital exhibition experiences.

Required Qualifications
• A commitment to racial equity and the principles of inclusion and accessibility;
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in history, museum studies, non-profit management or related field;
• Minimum two years developing and presenting educational public programs in history museums or similar settings;
• Exceptional organizational skills and familiarity with cloud-based calendar and project management systems.

30 hours per week. Exact workdays and hours flexible; candidate must be available for weekly virtual meetings and scheduled public programs and events.

5-10%, in state. Selected candidate must have reliable transportation.

Remote, based in Oregon.

$55,000 year, plus medical and dental health care coverage.
