Black History Quest, Season 3, episode 2!
Who are the Black soldiers who lived and worked at Camp White during World War II? Join host Mariah Rocker and researcher, historian and Regional Teacher of the Year Kellen Akiyama on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:00PM to find out!
During World War II, hundreds of Black soldiers lived, worked and trained at Camp White, the largest military camp in Oregon—but their stories are underrepresented, if not forgotten. What can we discover about these soldiers and their lives in the unpredictable and often hostile environment of Southern Oregon at the time?
Black History Quest peeks behind the process as history investigators take on questions that have perplexed researchers of Oregon’s African American history. Each episode, we’ll learn about the challenges and surprises of doing historical research, and try to learn how one source can change history.
